Students in various undergraduate programmes (mainly BEng programmes and BSc Computing/Networking programmes) can participate in a year-long Industrial Placement. These placements can be used as part of their final dissertation assignment for some postgraduate programmes. These internships are credit-bearing and count toward a student's degree when they graduate. Students have found these placements to be quite beneficial in gaining experience. They are occasionally offered a graduate position within the company immediately or after completing their Honours year. The University also urges the students to participate in a summer or short-term placement.

Student placements can serve as an extended interview for companies, and students can see where they might fit into a particular industry and in what capacity. Paid or unpaid, short-term or long-term placements are available.
