A placement year is probably the best method to improve your degree and considerably raise your chances of landing a decent job or PhD position. Not only will you gain valuable experience and training, but UoG's placement students earn an average income of £12,000-14,000!

Finding a job may seem challenging at first. Nonetheless, the placement team will be by your side every step of the way.

Beginning the Placement

The student and the firm can negotiate the start date of the placement, but most start in July or August. Accommodation arrangements should be made well in advance of the commencement date. It's possible that the placement will be a continuation of a project started by a previous year's student, in which case you may arrange to take over their housing. Alternatively, the employer may be able to provide temporary housing for the first few weeks while arrangements are made. In any situation, it is the student's responsibility to contact the firm and make the required accommodations arrangements. If complications emerge, get advice from your academic supervisor.

The University of Glasgow residences for undergraduates and postgraduates consist of catered and self-catered options comprising suites, apartments, houses, and flats, all equipped with dining services. Some popular residential accommodations are Brooke House, Winton Drive, Lister House, and Dumfries Hall.

Why choose UoG's On-Campus Accommodation?

When it comes to finding a place to reside during their time in Glasgow, students have a plethora of choices. However, UoG believes that staying in university housing is the best option for the majority of students. Read on to know why.

  • If you are a full-time student at the university, you are guaranteed accommodation
  • Staying in University accommodation, sharing a residence with students from the same institution, or possibly even the same programme, is the only way to receive the whole "University of Glasgow Experience."
  • Undergraduates and postgraduates are not housed in the same block.
  • Your accommodation fees include access to one of the best university sports facilities in the UK.
  • You have access to dedicated University support 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and direct access to University Student Support Services through Residence staff.
  • You will not be held liable for the complete accommodation contract if your circumstances change and you formally drop out of your studies.
  • You can choose from a variety of flats and rooms available at various prices.

Getting accepted into the University of Glasgow was one of the best decisions I ever made. The university has a lot of great programs and is really focused on ensuring students get a high-quality education. It was also an added bonus that its campuses are split into three different locations so I had plenty to choose from!

I went to the University of Glasgow many years ago and it was an amazing experience. I loved the courses I took and even now, I can still feel that creative spark when I talk with my friends who are still there. It's a great university in a good location, with lots of interesting and committed students.

Imagine being able to study abroad in any country of your choice with a school of your choice, for as little as 2 weeks up to a full year. It's amazing what the University of Glasgow has done for me. I would have never considered studying in Europe without them. Being able to spend time immersed in another culture is my dream come true!
