On-Campus Accommodation

The university focuses on four major areas to assist the students to become leaders in serving the local and global communities. Residential Life supports the purpose because it thinks that living on-campus enhances the academic experience by allowing students to learn both inside and outside of the classroom.

Multiple ideas and ways to involve students living on-campus are being used to help improve not only the residential experience but also the learning that takes place in our residence halls.

Personal development

Residents will explore their identities, values, and purpose in order to learn more about themselves. Residents will be able to do the following:

• Make their identities clear
• Determine their emotions, motivations, and desires
• By communicating their needs and desires, they may advocate for themselves
• Define and (re)evaluate their goal

Community

Residents will understand and appreciate living in a multi-cultural environment in which they can grow and communicate across differences while also working to foster mutual respect. Residents will be able to do the following:

• Create and maintain healthy connections
• Describe the community's expectations as well as the consequences of their behaviour
• Maintain community standards by holding peers accountable
• Change your habits to have a beneficial impact on the community

Social Justice

Residents will become more self-aware as a result of participating in social dialogue in order to build inclusive communities, advocate for equity, and learn about various cultures and belief systems. Residents will be able to do the following:

• Make their prejudices and biases known
• Understand the vocabulary and concepts associated with social justice
• Describe how societal institutions contribute to oppression and privilege
• Strive for equity and inclusion

Global responsibility

Residents will take part in a learning environment in which they will reflect on issues that affect all communities, learn how to advocate for others, and engage globally. Residents will be able to do the following:

• Identify community challenges
• Make a positive contribution to your community
• Advocate on behalf of others
• Participate on a local, national, and worldwide level

Safety and Security

For students who are living on their own for the first time, FIU Housing is a safe option. Campus police and Residence Life employees maintain security 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The first objective is to provide a supportive and safe learning and living environment for students.
