Carleton University

The institute, originally known as Carleton College, was established in 1942 to assist returning World War II veterans. In 1952, the provincial government granted the institute university status, and in 1957 it adopted the name Carleton University. When compared to the university's rankings in 2018 (489), 2019 (483), and 2020 (483), the US News & World Report, which is exclusive to the US, has Carleton University ranked at 471 for 2021.

Reputation Indicators, including Bibliometric Indicators, Scientific Excellence Indicators, and Global and Regional Research Reputation, are considered by US News & World Report. For the current year, 2021, the institution has received rankings from QS World University Ranking and THE (Times Higher Education), which consider academic and research repute. In the 2020 ARWU (Shanghai Ranking) ranking, which considers citations written and the amount of Nobel Prizes received by faculty, Carleton University is ranked between 501 and 600.

Carleton is divided into six faculties and offers various academic programmes. They are the Faculty of Science (est.1963), Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Affairs (est.1974), Faculty of Public Affairs (est.1997), Faculty of Engineering & Design (est.1963), Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences (est.1997), and Sprott School of Business (est:2006).

The university is listed between 501 and 600 by The Times Higher Education (THE) for taking PG Business and Economics courses. The institution has received rankings for engineering programmes in the range of 201-250 (2021) for THE PG Engineering and Technology and 451-500 (2020) for QS Engineering and Technology Subject rankings. THE (Times Higher Education) - PG Computers Ranking has consistently placed Carleton University in the top 400 for the last three years, 2019–2021.
