  • Founded in 1971, MacEwan University was initially known as Grant MacEwan Community College and a higher education institution. In 1988, this college achieved authorization to extend university programs. Later, in 2009, this college became Alberta's 6th university and was renamed MacEwan University for all public communication and marketing purposes.

Webometrics - National

Admission at MacEwan University varies greatly depending on the degree. In most cases, international students must apply with their Grade 12 results and subject credits. The entry requirements for Grade 12 are based on Alberta Education approved curriculum and nomenclature. High school topics are divided into four divisions, with the exception of English Language Arts:

  • A group of people (Humanities)
  • Group B consists of the following individuals (Fine Arts)
  • Group C consists of the following individuals (Sciences)
  • Optional/Electives Group D

Credit requirements will vary depending on the subject chosen by the students. Credits from the following internationally renowned tests are also accepted by the university:


International students from non-English-speaking countries must also present one of the following English language competency scores:

6.5 bands, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component

TOFEL

86 or above, with a minimum score of 21 in each component

DET

115 or above

PTE

59 or above, with a minimum of 56 in each component

180 or above, with a minimum of 165 in each skill

 

Over 30 programmes at MacEwan University offer students Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities. 

Students pursuing journalism have gained experience at the Edmonton Journal, CBC (Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Yellowknife), and CHED Radio. 

Students can look for job placements and learn job skills at the university's Career Development & Experiential Learning centre.

MacEwan University offers both on-campus and off-campus housing options. For the sake of safety, accessibility, and security, the university provides housing services to all students. Telephone connections, restrooms, a common kitchen, a closet, bookcases, study desks, garbage cans, parking, laundry, study lamps, and furniture are among the amenities provided by the residence and lodging. For final approval, students can submit their residency requests to the Housing Department. Students can also rent a private room or apartment with amenities such as a fully equipped bedroom, dining room, bathroom, living room, Wi-Fi, electricity, and a laundry room.
